Ways to cure the winter blues at CLC
February and March can be very tough months in New England. Football is over. The days still lack lots of sunlight. It’s too cold. We’re still paying for Christmas. Some of us are still in school. Money’s tight. And many of us are preparing our taxes.
Then at church we enter into the Lenten season, which is not the most cheery time on the liturgical calendar. Personal reflection can be a lonely and scary thing to do. Contemplating on our sins to strengthen our faith in Christ is not a fun process…so most people avoid it.
However, Lent does not have to be the depressing, dark activity that sometimes accompanies the winter, cabin-fever blues.
So to help make Lent a lot more meaningful (and maybe even fun) we are planning a Sunday Lenten worship series at CLC called
Cross Pieces. Here’s how it goes. Starting Ash Wednesday (February 17 at 7:30pm)…everyone who attends worship at CLC will receive a cross that they can put on their table, dresser, night stand, or desk.
Then each Sunday through Lent right up to Easter Sunday, you will receive a piece to add to your cross. Think about all the objects associated with the cross…nameplate, nails, crown, and that’s just the start. Each week you will receive an item tied to the worship theme and message. This will help you better reflect on your relationship with Christ Jesus. The cross and its pieces will be a daily reminder of God’s love for you through His Son, and the blessings He gives you each day and always.
But wait (as the infomercials say) there’s more:
"The Sign of Jonah" Lenten Soup Suppers and Prayer Services. Starting, Thursday, February 25 at 6pm, we will get together for fantastic fellowship featuring great soup and other food. Then the devotion for our Prayer Service will feature the fishy story about Jonah and the struggles he had trusting the Lord God. Jonah’s faith journey insights can help us find greater joy as we journey with Jesus to the Cross. The suppers and series will run each Thursday night up to Holy Week. When we more faithfully engage our Lord during Lent and allow His Spirit to help us better reflect on our faith then I believe the celebration at Easter will be a whole lot more meaningful and special.
Please give it a try, and we’ll see you often in worship, fellowship, and service.
